Wellness Holidays in IndiaSpas in India
Spas are designed with one main thing in mind and that is to benefit the mind and the body through targeted treatments. You will find spas that are targeted on a specific type of treatment such as mud baths, for example, or recovery therapy from an existing medical condition. However, they all work with our mind and body to relieve stress, aches, and pains in order to rejuvenate, relax, and refresh.
Traditionally, a spa is based around water. Most hotel spas and spa retreats will still base their spa treatments and rooms around pools, steam rooms and saunas. These days, however, there are a lot of day spas which don't have pools, so our "bottom line" definition of a modern spa is a place that offers a range of facial and body treatments.
Most spas - be the day, retreat or hotel spas - also offer cosmetic treatments like manicures, and an increasing number offer therapies such as Reiki and reflexology. Some even offer "lifestyle therapies" ranging from professional counselling to makeovers.About Ayurveda in India Ayurveda
is the oldest surviving complete medical system in the world. Derived
from its ancient Sanskrit roots - 'ayus' (life) and 'ved' (knowledge)
- and offering a rich, comprehensive outlook to a healthy life, its origins
go back nearly 5000 years. To when it was expounded and practiced by the
same spiritual rishis, who laid the foundations of the Vedic civilisation
in India, by organising the fundamentals of life into proper systems.
The main source of knowledge in this field therefore remains the Vedas,
the divine books of knowledge they propounded, and more specifically the
fourth of the series, namely Atharvaveda that dates back to around 1000
BC. Of the few other treatises on Ayurveda that have survived from around
the same time, the most famous are Charaka Samhita and the Sushruta Samhita
which concentrate on internal medicine and surgery respectively. The Astanga
Hridayam is a more concise compilation of earlier texts that was created
about a thousand years ago. These between them forming a greater part
of the knowledge base on Ayurveda as it is practiced today.About Yoga in India Yoga
is a discipline involving breathing techniques and postures called asanas
(A-san-as), a Sanskrit word that literally means, "to sit in a particular
position." Asanas are the various positions that make up the practice
of yoga.Yoga is radically different from more conventional exercises,
such as aerobics and weight training, in that the goal is not to develop
muscular strength or cardiovascular fitness (although those are common
reasons people practice today) but to bring the mind and body into a mutual
state of well being, balance, ease and vibrant alertness. The word yoga
means "union." One who follows the path of yoga is called a yogi or yogin.
The true practice of yoga becomes a lifestyle. More than an exercise program,
the yogi seeks to create balance in life through the asanas, proper diet
and rest, meditation, and in cultivation of correct thought and action.
The result of this discipline is optimum health and well being, which
encompasses things such as wisdom, creativity and peace with the self
and the world.
